Having adequate pots and pans are essential for preparing a proper meal and they can make the cooking process easier as well. You often see in recipes, as well as mine, the use of a Dutch Oven which is a pot that can be used stove top or in the oven. Dutch ovens generally hold 3 to 6 quarts and size can vary. But if you don’t have a Dutch oven, deep oven proof skillets or pans will work. And if your recipe doesn’t call for putting your pot in an oven, a heavy deep pot works.
In these photographs, I have three pots that can all be put in the oven. The rule of thumb is that if there is any plastic, such as handles or the lid, associated with the pot it cannot go into the oven. For these photos, top left is a stock or soup pot, to the right is a deeper skillet and front and center is a Dutch oven.
